Program Overview

The program is comprised of four elements. To complete this program within four months, you will need to take approximately half-a-day of training every two weeks.

Element 1 --> Leadership Training (20 hours)

You will complete CLAC’s Supervisor Micro-Certification Program  (SMCP), a series of six instructor-led modules that will provide you with the skills to be an effective people-centric leader.

Module 1: Leadership 101 – elevating your supervisory skills

Module 2: Health & Safety Compliance – foundation to a safety-first mindset

Module 3: Communication – developing effective communication skills to leverage team strengths

Module 4: Teamwork – forming effective teams

Module 5: Conflict Management – strengthening relationships and workplace culture

Module 6: Safety Culture – inspiring a safety-first culture

You will take SMCP modules 1 and & 6 (in-person or virtual) with other participants in the Empowering Women to Lead program. You will take modules 2-5 with CLAC’s regularly-scheduled SMCP courses (virtual). You must complete SMCP modules 2-5 prior to attending SMCP module 6.

You can learn more about the SMCP here.

Element 2 --> Self-Awareness and Personal Development (2-3 hours)

You will complete an individual assessment to measure your leadership tendencies and preferences.

You will receive a personalised report, which will provide targeted insights into your leadership style and how to adapt that style to the needs of your team.

Through two, one-hour, one-on-one sessions with a certified leadership coach, you will explore strategies to help you respond to daily challenges, learn how to influence others, and learn how to manage change in dynamic construction workplaces.

Element 3 --> Supporting Psychologically Safe Workplaces (8-10 hours – virtual/blended )

You will complete Mental Health First Aid certification, a program created by the Mental Health Commission of Canada and run through CLAC Training.

MHFA can be scheduled at your convenience any time within four months of the program start date.
